Title: I Ignored a Stranger at the Gas Station… and Paid for It the Next Morning
A Late-Night Stop I Thought Was Routine
It was one of those quiet, empty nights where everything feels still. I had been driving for hours and decided to stop at a small gas station on the edge of town. The place looked normal enough—bright lights, a couple of pumps, and a nearly empty parking lot.
I pulled up, grabbed the nozzle, and reached for my card.
That’s when I heard a voice behind me.
“Hey… you might not want to use your card here.”
A Warning I Didn’t Take Seriously
I turned around and saw a man standing a few feet away. He didn’t look threatening—just calm, almost hesitant, like he wasn’t sure if he should even say anything.
I gave a small laugh.
“Why not?” I asked.
He shrugged slightly. “Just… be careful. That’s all I’m saying.”
I didn’t think much of it. Honestly, it sounded a bit paranoid. I had used dozens of gas stations before without any issue. What were the chances something would go wrong now?
So I smiled, nodded politely, and went ahead anyway.
I inserted my card.
Entered my PIN.
Filled up the tank.
And drove off without a second thought.
