Unlike her husband, Micaela wasn’t a fan of office holiday parties where coworkers drank too much and let loose. “Thank God I don’t have to go to those,” she thought as she prepared Travis for his night out. Married for five years, she trusted him completely. So, with marker in hand, she wrote on his chest: “This is my husband; touch him, and you’ll pay – M.”
Travis laughed it off, promising, “I’m just having a few drinks. I’ll be home early.” But as Micaela decorated their living room and set up the Christmas tree, Travis arrived home much later, visibly drunk. She helped him to bed, but while undressing him, she noticed someone had written below her note: “Keep the change.”
At first, she laughed it off. But as the night wore on, the message nagged at her. The next morning, she asked Travis about the party. He recounted the night’s events—starting at the office, then karaoke at a bar, and ending at a club. When she pressed him about the reply, he looked confused. “One of the guys probably wrote it,” he said, brushing it off.
Still, her unease lingered. She confided in her mom, who suggested placing a GPS tracker in Travis’s car for peace of mind. Reluctantly, Micaela agreed, knowing how betrayed Travis would feel if he found out.
For the next week, she monitored his movements without incident. But one evening, when Travis called to say he’d be working late before the holidays, Micaela noticed the GPS showed his car heading in an unexpected direction. Instead of driving toward their home, he was heading to an upscale neighborhood.
